According to WFS, it has opened a new station inside the Airbus facilities in Getafe, from which the aircraft will operate to the other Airbus plants across Europe on an almost daily basis. WFS will be responsible for marshalling, towing and other aircraft services. The WFS team also will be in charge of levelling the aircraft to connect it to its integrated loading dock at the airport facility.

“As the world’s largest air cargo handler WFS handles freighter services for customers all over the world,” said Jacobo Sitges, ground handling director for Spain at WFS. “However, there is no doubt that being part of a complete Beluga turnaround within the industrial environment at Getafe is very special indeed as it connects with its huge loading dock and is very efficiently loaded with new aircraft parts. We are very proud that Airbus has given us this opportunity and also enabled us to add another station to our global network with a dedicated team to support the Beluga flying programme.”

Airbus’ fleet of five Beluga aircraft plays a key role in keeping the company’s production and assembly network operating at full capacity, with the overall pace of operations growing to support production ramp-ups.
