CMA CGM PARTNERS WITH STARTUP TO DEVELOP AI FOR VESSELS

The CMA CGM Group has partnered with San Francisco-based startup Shone to collaborate in the use of artificial intelligence for maritime transportation.

According to the French shipping line, the collaboration enables Shone to access CMA CGM’s vessels to finalize the development of AI systems on board container ships.

Shone will analyze the data taken from systems on board. Once the development is finalized, the two companies hope to be able to facilitate the work of crews, whether in decision support, maritime safety or piloting assistance.

As far as security and anti-collision alert systems are concerned, Shone also integrates data from multiple sensors such as radar, cameras and AIS in order to increase detection accuracy, preventing potential collisions.

The partnership is in line with CMA CGM’s strategy of innovation and digital transformation implemented by Rodolphe Saadé, chairman and CEO of the group.

Shone was founded by three French engineers in 2017.
