IATA: 2,444 AIRCRAFT REJOIN IN-SERVICE FLEET IN MAY

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said via its Airlines Financial Monitor for the months April-May that an additional 2,444 aircraft have rejoined the in-service fleet in May as carriers began to return aircraft to service with the relaxation of lockdown measures worldwide.

IATA said seat capacity increased 25% compared to April, however, it remained 49% below the level since in May 2019.

Meanwhile,16 new aircraft were reportedly delivered last month, with carriers postponing or cancelling future deliveries in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

IATA said amid the persisting impact of the coronavirus on demand, airlines are expected to remain cautious regarding capacity increases.
