The world's busiest port handled 4.2 million TEUs in October, surpassing its own record recorded in July by 297,000 TEUs — the latest volume was 15.7% higher compared to the number of containers handled by the port during the same month in 2019.

Port of Shanghai is the busiest port in the world in terms of cargo tonnage and comprises a deepsea port and a river port.

In 2019, without the disruptions from the coronavirus, it handled 43.3 million TEUs in container volumes, ranking it as the world’s busiest container port for the 10th year.
