NAVIGATION IN THE SUEZ CANAL IS BACK IN BOTH DIRECTIONS

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) announced that since March 31, two days after the container vessel blocking the canal has been successfully refloated, normal operations at one of the world's busiest waterways is back in full swing.

"Navigation in the Suez Canal is back in both directions immediately upon successfully refloating the grounded vessel EVER GIVEN," it said in a statement.

"Now, the Suez Canal is operating in full capacity and around the clock," it added.

The 20,000 TEU containership ran aground and became lodged sideways across the southern entry of the canal on March 23 as gusting winds reportedly caused the container ship to deviate from its course — prompting the Suez Canal Authority to temporarily suspend navigation through the waterway on March 25.

Admiral Osama Rabie, chairman and managing director at the SCA said there were around 422 ships waiting to transit through the Suez Canal that time and they will be accommodated on a first come first serve basis.
