According to United, the daily flight will be operated with a Boeing 787-9 and, at 8,596 miles, will be the airline’s second-longest, after its non-stop flight between Los Angeles and Singapore which is due to begin on October 27, 2017, also with a 787-9. United also operates a non-stop 787-9 flight between San Francisco and Singapore, and will operate the three longest flights of any US carrier.

“Our Houston hub is stronger than ever and it continues to be an absolutely vital part of our industry-leading network,” said Scott Kirby, president of United Airlines. “We are honoured to have served this vibrant city for nearly half a century, and this exciting intercontinental flight is one more way we are demonstrating United’s commitment to our customers who call Houston home as well as the millions of customers who connect through Houston each year.”

United already serves Sydney daily from its Los Angeles and San Francisco hubs, and operates a daily non-stop flight between Los Angeles and Melbourne. All three flights are also operated with 787-9s.
