RHENUS PLANS INTRA-ASIA GROWTH

Rhenus Logistics Asia-Pacific is planning to accelerate its growth in the intra-Asia market with a greater focus on customer needs and trends.

 

According to Rhenus, the company also hopes to tap into emerging opportunities such as e-commerce and digital technologies in the region, following the opening of a new office in New Zealand in August 2018 to extend the presence in the Oceania market. The company continues to identify potential merger and acquisition opportunities.

“With a presence in almost every part of the Asia Pacific, Rhenus has an extensive portfolio of services, products and solutions,” said Jan Harnisch, CEO of Far East Asia at Rhenus Asia-Pacific. “Our intra-Asia trade volume has seen a steady year-on-year growth of 20-30% for the past 3 years and we aim to double up the revenue by 2020. We continue to deliver strong air and ocean products, while warehousing, cross-border trucking and rail transportation remain increasingly important in the region. We are also looking to grow the e-commerce business for Southeast Asia and Greater China, among others.”

 

The Asian Development Bank expects intra-Asia trade to continue to grow steadily. The Asia-Pacific region saw its gross domestic product rise from 30.1% in 2000 to 42.6% in 2017 and accounted for more than a third of global exports.

 

“Rhenus is on track on a long-term growth strategy to establish strong presence on all continents,” said Tobias Bartz, a member of the board at Rhenus. “The extension of our presence in the Southeast Asian markets is key, where we leverage the possibilities in cross-border trucking. We are seeing strong growth in air freight, especially the trade lanes between Hong Kong-Bangkok, Taipei-Bangkok, Hong Kong-Delhi, Singapore-Bangkok, Shanghai-Bangkok.”
