Silk Way Alat Free Economic Zone Company (SW AFEZCO) has signed a design-and-build agreement with Modern Construction Group, marking a significant milestone in the development of the Silk Way Cargo Village.
Modern Construction Group will design and construct three key facilities that will form part of the Silk Way Cargo Village: a cargo terminal, the Silk Way office building, and a shared freight forwarder facility — and will be located within the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ).

"The agreement ensures that these modern facilities will align with the latest international standards for green and sustainable infrastructure," the announcement said, adding that the initiative also emphasizes Azerbaijan's commitment to becoming a global hub for logistics and cargo services.
"This agreement marks a transformative step toward establishing Azerbaijan as a premier global logistics hub," said Jawad Dbila, managing director of SW AFEZCO.
"The fully automated 30,000 square-meter cargo terminal, the largest in the Caspian Sea region, will set new standards in sustainable construction and enhance trade connectivity between Europe and Asia, solidifying Azerbaijan's strategic role in the global logistics network," he added.
Arif Guliyev, director of Modern Construction Group, said Silk Way AFEZCO is a "transformative project."
"Our expertise in delivering complex infrastructure projects will ensure that the Silk Way Cargo Village becomes a sustainable beacon of Azerbaijan’s logistics ecosystem," he said.
The project is scheduled for completion by July 2026.
