ONE ADOPTS DCSA EBL STANDARDS USING GSBN BLOCKCHAIN
February 24, 2025

Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN), a not-for-profit consortium enabling paperless, accessible, and sustainable global trade with its data infrastructure and ecosystem of partners, said it is working closely with Ocean Network Express Pte Ltd (ONE) to adopt the Digital Container Shipping Association's (DCSA) eBL standard to accelerate its customers' adoption of eBL.

Adopting new digital solutions is often time-consuming and costly for customers. Different carriers also typically operate within their own systems and have varying documentation processes.

GSBN said this fragmentation often leads to inefficiencies and increased complexity for customers coordinating international shipments with different carriers.

"ONE will continue its adoption of the DSCA standard, including the new standard issued in December 2024, for eBLs issued over GSBN's infrastructure," the announcement said.

It added that this allows customers to manage eBLs from multiple carriers on a single platform and using the same identity, simplifying onboarding and significantly improving workflow efficiency.

"We are committed to enriching the overall customer experience through our range of offerings and continued digitalization efforts.  We envision a future of paperless international trade and are actively developing eBL solutions to provide a seamless and efficient customer experience," said Kosuke Wada, executive vice president of ONE.

"This focus on innovation will drive operational efficiency, strengthen collaboration with our ecosystem partners,  and deliver added value to our customers," he added.

Bertrand Chen, CEO of GSBN, noted that as the industry adapts towards an era of increasing uncertainty, the eBL is an "important enabler" of resilience and value creation.

"ONE has been a pioneer in adopting digital innovations, continuously advancing digitalisation to forge new value propositions for their customers. At GSBN, we want to enable our Members, such as ONE, to reach their digitalization goals in the most scalable and robust manner."

"We look forward to further development within our ecosystem to reinforce the overall value of eBL for all of our members," Chen added.

This milestone marks the second product ONE has adopted through the GSBN platform, building upon the implementation of Cargo Release. Following Hapag Lloyd's announcement in April 2024, ONE is also the second DCSA member to collaborate with GSBN to reach its 100% eBL adoption commitment.

ONE is one of four major Container Carriers that are issuing eBLs through GSBN (COSCO, OOCL, Hapag Lloyd, ONE).

GSBN anticipates further collaboration with ecosystem partners, advancing the digitalisation of the maritime industry to simplify trade processes for all stakeholders.
