The Port of Antwerp-Bruges is expanding the Maritime Logistics Zone in phases, aiming to generate additional maritime cargo for the terminals in the outer port and provide space for businesses in a forward-looking environment.
The current tender for the development of an 8.5-hectare site focuses on logistics projects that align with deep-sea and short-sea activities.
The Maritime Logistics Zone offers opportunities for companies involved in the cold chain; consumer goods benefit from its proximity to deep-sea and short-sea platforms; and high and heavy cargo, with the presence of specialized terminal facilities for oversized and heavy shipments, ensures smooth handling transportation.
The Port announced that the tendering process would begin on February 27, 2025, and close on May 9, 2025.
Dirk De fauw, mayor of the City of Bruges and vice-president of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, said the tendering process is a step toward further developing Zeebrugge as Europe's logistics hub.
"Its strategic location and excellent maritime connections make this site a unique opportunity for innovative companies seeking to invest in the future of distribution and logistics. This is not only an investment in economic growth but also in sustainable development and job creation for the region," he said.
William Demoor, chief customer relations officer at Port of Antwerp-Bruges, noted that the demand for logistics sites in a dynamic port environment such as Zeebrugge remains high."Thanks to the exceptional location of the Maritime Logistics Zone close to the deepsea & shortsea platform and the wide range of value-added services present within the Zeebrugge platform, this tendering process offers a unique opportunity for companies looking to develop their logistics activities," he said.
