BARCELONA, SHANGHAI PORTS SIGN GREEN SHIPPING CORRIDOR AGREEMENT
August 11, 2025

The Port of Barcelona and China's Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) have signed a strategic agreement to collaborate on digitalisation, standardisation, and decarbonisation of maritime transport.

The deal aims to strengthen ties between the two ports, enhance port and maritime services, and develop shared solutions through joint training programs, knowledge exchange, and best practices in areas such as management and security.

Port of Barcelona President José Alberto Carbonell said both ports have committed to developing a “Green Shipping and Digital Corridor” that will support maritime routes powered by green energy and enable emissions-neutral services between the Far East and the Mediterranean.

"Signing this agreement marks another step in the relationship between both ports, which last year agreed to explore opportunities for collaboration in areas such as innovation and sustainability," the announcement said.

The ports will also work to build the infrastructure and regulatory frameworks needed to supply green energy fuels at both locations, to enable emissions-neutral maritime services between the Far East and the Mediterranean.

In addition, the Port of Barcelona and SIPG will establish strategic cooperation in cruise tourism, aligning with the renewed momentum in China's outbound travel market.
