MAB KARGO SDN (MASkargo) is working to ensure the uninterrupted transport of much-needed medical supplies and equipment in Malaysia to combat the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement, the cargo arm of Malaysia's flag carrier said it is collaborating with the country's National Disaster Agency of Malaysia (NADMA), the Ministry of Transport (MOT), the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), to arrange flight and cargo plans for the flow of medical supplies to the country mostly from China.

On March 18, MASKargo flew a flight from China carrying 300,000 disposable masks, 50,000 protective suits and 8,000 protective suits with eye masks, donated to Malaysia by e-commerce founder Jack Ma of Alibaba.

Later in March, MASKargo also flew from Shanghai and Canton ventilator parts and medical masks to the country in collaboration with NADMA, MOT and Malaysian pharmaceutical company Pharmaniaga Berhad.

“We have changed our freighter schedules to manage these high priority cargo movements. There were difficulties due to airport restrictions but with cooperation by both governments, the kinks were ironed out and our team has been working day and night to ensure that the medical equipment arrives safely in Malaysia," said Ibrahim Mohamed Salleh, MASkargo chief executive.

“To address the capacity shortage, we are also looking at passenger-to-cargo flights where Malaysia Airlines’ passenger aircraft are used to fly only cargo out of China,” he added.

Aside from transporting medical supplies and equipment to the country, MASKargo said it is also providing free storage space for these shipments.
