INDIA EXTENDS BAN ON SCHEDULED INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS UNTIL JULY 31

India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation said via its official Twitter account that India's Government extended its prohibition of scheduled international passenger services until the end of the month.

The scheduled international passenger services to and from India have been earlier prohibited since March 25 to contain the spread of the coronavirus to and from India with an original schedule to resume on June 30.

Before the June 30 deadline, however, the Indian government decided to extend flight restrictions on all commercial flights until July 15 prior, then eventually to July 31.

Currently, India has the 3rd most number of coronavirus cases worldwide next only to the US and Brazil. As of July 6, India has 698,233 COVID-19 cases with 19,703 deaths.

Worldwide COVID-19 cases have reached 11.56 million with 536,906 fatalities.

India noted that "international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case to case basis".
