WorldACD reported that worldwide air cargo volume continued to pick up in January with the second week (January 11-17) recording a 9% increase over the previous week as worldwide capacity also increased by 4%.
The air cargo data provider said on a regional level, origin Europe did best with a volume increase of 17% week-over-week, while business from Africa decreased most (-2%).
Aside from Africa, the Middle East and South Asia also recorded a decrease of -1% for the period.
Africa was also the only region to record a drop in capacity in the second week of January.
Meanwhile, all the other regions saw volumes and capacity pick up.
Asia Pacific, Central and South America saw volumes grow 8% respectively, while North America was up 7%.
In terms of capacity, Asia Pacific led the regions with a 9% increase in capacity followed by Europe (+5%), Middle East and South Asia (+4%), Central and South America (+2%) while capacity in North America was flat from the first to the second week.
The average worldwide yield/rate in the second week of January was also "slightly lower" than the first week, according to WorldACD.
In the first week of the year, worldwide volume increased by 14% compared with the previous week, while worldwide capacity increased by 5%.
North America did best in week 1 with a volume increase of 21% week-over-week, while the Middle East & South Asia recorded the lowest increase (+5
%).
The average worldwide yield/rate that time continued its downward trend.
