Container throughput at Tianjin Port, the largest port in Northern China, and the main maritime gateway to Beijing, exceeded two million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in May, setting a new monthly record.
The latest numbers represent a 20% year-on-year increase in volume, which the gateway noted is indicative of a "more dynamic economy in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region."
Tianjin Port attributed the throughput growth to its cooperation with major ports across the country and efforts to maintain the smooth operation of the logistics chain.
"Despite the Covid-19 pandemic-induced impacts, Tianjin Port handled 18.35 million TEUs in 2020, up 6.1% from the previous year, ranking among the top 10 in the world," it added.
