SCHIPHOL CARGO THROUGHPUT UP 15% IN 2021 VS. 2020

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AAS) reported that cargo throughput for 2021 grew 15% compared to the volume seen in 2020.

The hub processed 1.66 million tonnes of cargo last year, up from the 1.44 million tonnes seen the year prior.

It is also up 5% compared to the 1.57 million tonnes recorded in 2019, prior to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

Schiphol said there were 23,996 cargo-only flights last year, representing a 1% increase than the 23,782 cargo-only flights seen in 2020. This is also 70% up than the 14,156 carg-only flights recorded in 2019 when bellyhold capacity was in abundance.

The Royal Schiphol Group said the mounting cargo flights is due to temporary slots made available at Schiphol.

According to Schipol's traffic and transportation statistics for November 2021, the number of all-cargo flights grew from 1,180 to 1,928, up from 1,180 in 2019.

This compensates for the tonnage generally transported on passenger flights, according to the Royal Schiphol Group, with a total transferred volume of over 143,831 tonnes in 2019.
