CARGO TRAFFIC CONTINUE TO GROW STEADILY AT HONG KONG INT'L AIRPORT
November 19, 2024

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) reported another month of steady cargo volume growth in October, mainly driven by export traffic.

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) reported a 12.7% year-on-year increase in cargo volume to 442,000 tonnes in October.

Export traffic remains the main driver of the growth, which was 15.6% higher than in the same month last year.

Cargo traffic to and from Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East increased most significantly among key trading regions in the month.

For the first ten months of the year, cargo volume rose by 15.4% year-on-year to 4.03 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, on a 12-month rolling basis, cargo throughput grew by 15.9% to 4.9 million tonnes.

AAHK noted that for the period, Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, and Greater Bay Airlines launched new routes in October, connecting Hong Kong to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, Chiang Mai in Thailand and Yonago in Japan, further expanding HKIA's air network.
