Lufthansa Cargo has become the first carrier to introduce a digital application for the creation of the transport documents required for dangerous goods.
According to Lufthansa Cargo, the new cloud-based DGD.online offering can equally be used for shipments sent via air, road or sea. It will help shippers digitize their dangerous goods processes and facilitate paperless cooperation with logistics providers.
“With DGD.online, we are further expanding our digital offering and striving to make it as easy as possible for our customers and partners to use electronic services,” said Boris Hueske, head of digital transformation at Lufthansa Cargo. “In this way, we can all leverage the potential that digitization has to offer and make air cargo handling even faster and more efficient in the future.”
The developers, using input from pilot customers, focused on achieving a user-friendly application with validation and convenience features designed to add value.
DGD.online can be used to generate electronically signed dangerous goods declarations and send them automatically, complete with attachments such as safety data sheets. Forwarders and other logistics providers can also be digitally integrated into the handling process, facilitating paperless cooperation. DGD.online is also compatible with the use of electronic Dangerous Goods Declarations, which accelerate processes and prevent costly errors.
Siemens Healthcare GmbH is one of the first users of DGD.online and supported all stages of the application’s development.
“This new application fits seamlessly into our digitization strategy,” said Markus Dess, logistics process planner at Siemens Healthineers. “DGD.online will have a lasting, positive effect on the productivity of our service delivery process.”
