Thai Airways recently revealed that Ekniti Nitithanprapas, its chairman, has resigned November 1 effective immediately.

While Thailand's flag carrier is yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the resignation, a stock exchange filing said Thai Vice Chairman Air Chief Marshal Chaiyapruk Didyasarin will “perform the duty of the chairman” until a replacement is confirmed. Didyasarin reportedly only became vice-chairman on October 16.

Nitithanprapas exit from Thai Airways follows three other airline’s executive directors resignation since May.

His resignation also comes at a time when the carrier is struggling from financial loses amid fierce competition, tepid economic growth, and global uncertainty heightened by the persisting trade wars.

In 2018, Thai Airways began implementing a Rehabilitation Plan to turnaround the airline's profitability but reports said just last October, Thailand’s Deputy Transport Minister asked the carrier to present a new restructuring plan to the Ministry of Transport this month.
