PVG ADOPTS MEASURES FOR INCREASED CARGO VOLUMES

Shanghai Airport Authority reported increased cargo volumes at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) mainly carrying health supplies and equipment amid the global fight against the coronavirus.
PVG saw cargo volumes rise to an average of more than 200 per day over the past month. The airport has handled more than 10,000 tons of quarantine materials.
To accommodate the surge in freight volumes, the Airport Authority said it will implement the following measures to streamline cargo operations:
- Adjusting operating schedules to accommodate more cargo services during peak daytime periods;
- Put in place 58 parking bays allocated for cargo aircraft;
- Increasing ground support equipment at the west cargo area and adjusting ground operations to improve ground vehicle capacity;
- Adding 12,000sqm of ground equipment storage space and added seven new equipment parking areas for each cargo aircraft;
- Improving customs clearance processes and airline crew quarantine measures.
