Changi Airport Group named veteran public servant Tan Gee Paw as its acting chairman following the resignation of Liew Mun Leong from the position, Singapore's Ministry of Finance (MOF) said on Sept 10.
Tan previously served as chairman of the Public Utilities Board, Singapore’s national water agency, between April 2001 to March 2017 and was a director at Changi Airport's board since May 2017.
He was also a former professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore and some of his other previous appointments include being Principal of Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and serving as Permanent Secretary of the then Ministry of the Environment and Special Advisor to the Land Transport Authority.
Former chair resigns effective immediately
Liew Mun Leong resigned from his position as Changi Airport chairman effectively also and from his other roles in Temasek Foundation and Surbana Jurong.
Liew was the founding chairman of Changi Airport Group following its formation in 2009.
The Ministry said in a statement that Liew had informed Changi Airport and MOF of his decision following the High Court's decision to acquit his former domestic worker Parti Liyani from charges of stealing S$34,000 worth of items from his family.
MOF noted that Liew didn't want the highly-publicized case "to create a distraction to the organisation".
