ZIM Shipping said it will join relief efforts in India amid the devastating Covid-19 situation in the country.
In a statement, the Israeli international cargo shipping company said it will carry any container with medical-grade oxygen (oxygen tanks, oxygen bottles, portable oxygen generators, and oxygen concentrators) to India at a token charge of US$1.00.
Furthermore, ZIM will prioritize the delivery of such containers in the coming weeks, to expedite the arrival of all medical supplies to India.
“Zim is taking action in view of the critical importance of these shipments in improving the difficult situation in India,” Eli Glickman, ZIM President & CEO said in a statement.
India has recently seen a massive second wave of coronavirus infections — overwhelming the countries health care system as well as a reported shortage of various life-saving medical supplies like oxygen.
As of Tuesday, the country added more than 355,000 cases, down from more than 400,000 daily cases on April 30 — and recorded more than 20 million Covid-19 infections in total.
