Hutchison Ports Yantian has recently welcomed the 24,000-TEU class mega ship “Ever Ace” of Evergreen — dubbed as the world's largest container vessel — on its maiden voyage.
In a statement, it said “Ever Ace” called at Berth #16 of Hutchison Ports Yantian (Yantian).
Hutchison Ports noted that with a deck area of nearly four soccer fields, “Ever Ace” is 400 meters long, and is 63 meters longer than the world's largest aircraft carrier in service.
It has also a carrying capacity of 23,992 TEU which, if being connected end to end, can stretch all the way from Shenzhen to Guangzhou.
First of ten 24,000 TEU mega ships
“Ever Ace” is the first of the ten 24,000-TEU class mega ships of Evergreen Marine. Her sister vessels “Ever Act”, “Ever Aim”, and “Ever Alp” will be put into operations this year and will also berth at Yantian.
Hutchison Ports said “Ever Ace” is the largest container vessel calling at Yantian Port ever. It added that during its inaugural call at Yantian, 8,200 TEU were handled, marking the largest number of container handled in the ports on her maiden voyage.
Moreover, after cargo handling in Yantian, the vessel are now shipping 21,718 TEU, which set a new world record of the number of container carried by a single container vessel.
Operating on Evergreen’s Europe Express Service, “Ever Ace” set off from Qingdao Port on July 30, and headed south with a port rotation of Shanghai, Ningbo, Taipei and Yantian — the only port of call in South China.
After departing Yantian, the vessel will sail directly to Europe and is expected to arrive at Port of Rotterdam in 23 days.
“Yantian has been an important partner of Evergreen Line for a long time, and it is also a terminal-of-choice for ultra-large container vessels in the world. We choose Yantian as the only port of call of “Ever Ace” in South China, signifying a vote of confidence in a number of key factors such as its capabilities and capacities in serving mega vessels and the abundant cargo sources coming from the cargo catchment areas,” Evergreen Shenzhen said.
Welcoming “Ever Ace” maiden voyage to Yantian, Lawrence Shum, managing director of Hutchison Ports Yantian also highlighted the unique offerings of mega vessel operation of Yantian.
“We are very pleased with Ever Ace, the largest container vessel in the world, berthing at our facility in Yantian. The combined facilities of Yantian can handle up to five mega-vessels each with deadweight over 200,000 tons simultaneously which provides the big container shipping alliances with the capacity and flexibility to include Yantian in their network,” Shum said.
“As a key container operator of Shenzhen and South China, Yantian serves over 1/3 of the import and export container traffic of Guangdong province,” he added.
Yantian has 20 deep-water container berths, capable of serving mega-vessels 24/7 making it a preferred port-of-call for mega-vessels.
Hutchison Ports said since January 2020, Yantian has served more than 660 mega-vessels with carrying capacity of over 18,000 TEU, contributing to China’s robust growth in international trade amid world challenging times.
