March 22, 2022

China's ports recorded growth of cargo throughput in the January-February period which was attributed to the steady economic recovery of the country after the drag from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cargo throughput at Chinese ports reached 2.36 billion tonnes in the two-month period, up 2.7% year on year, according to reports from state media citing data from the Ministry of Transport.

During the first two months, container handling volume at ports in China also grew 2.9% to 43.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) compared to the year-ago level.

Last month, China's ports handled 1.06 billion tonnes of cargo, while container throughput stood at 19.44 million TEUs.
