Air Canada Cargo has added a second freighter aircraft to its fleet, allowing it to expand its freighter network to additional locations in Canada and Europe.

The arrival of a second B767-300ER will allow the airline to begin high-frequency cargo services between Halifax Stanfield International Airport and Toronto.

In May, Air Canada Cargo will launch a new freighter service to Cologne, Frankfurt, Istanbul, and Madrid from its base in Toronto.

This will also complement the carrier's regular freighter service to some Latin American destinations.

"Today's flight from Toronto arrived in Halifax with freight coming from around Air Canada’s global network and destined for Atlantic Canada," Air Canada Cargo said. "It will be loaded up with fresh lobster, fish, aerospace parts, and pharmaceuticals for its journey back to Toronto, from where those goods will be shipped to their final destinations around the globe."

Jason Berry, vice president, of cargo at Air Canada, noted the "long-standing and strong bond with Atlantic Canada and the Nova Scotia community."

"We are thrilled to introduce direct freighter capacity to the market," Berry added. "Atlantic Canada's economy has experienced important growth in the last few years, with increased demand from North America, Europe, and beyond."

Berry further said that Nova Scotia is a "key element" of Air Canada Cargo's growth strategy.

"Halifax being one of our first Canadian markets with the freighters further emphasizes the importance we place on our partnerships in the community."

The new service with Halifax operates in Toronto five times per week. Air Canada Cargo will add two flights per week to Frankfurt, one flight per week to Cologne, one flight per week to Istanbul, and three flights per week to Madrid from Toronto in May.
