Port Houston announced an extension of gate operating hours to boost cargo flow at the port as it noted seeing continued "tremendous growth" in volumes.

"As cargo demand increases, we are implementing changes now to maximize efficiencies for our customers," the port ⁠— one of the busiest cargo ports in North America ⁠— said. "Effective June 4, 2022, Bayport and Barbours Cut Container Terminal gate operating hours will be extended to include Saturdays."

It added that the new gate hours were put in place to help address dwell time for imports and exports, improve the use of the Express Pass, and achieve turn-times mirroring weekday turn times to support the flow of gate transactions.
