The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has introduced a new container shipping service linking Jeddah Islamic Port to three major Chinese ports—Qingdao, Ningbo, and Nansha.
Operated by Blue Ocean Shipping, the BOS service will offer a capacity of up to 2,300 TEUs.
The new route is aimed at strengthening Saudi Arabia's maritime connectivity, boosting national exports, and reinforcing the Kingdom's position as a regional leader in port operations and logistics.
Jeddah Islamic Port, the largest transshipment hub on the Red Sea, handles 65% of Saudi Arabia's seaborne imports and transshipment activity, with an annual capacity of 130 million tons.
Ports under Mawani's oversight saw a 12.01% year-on-year increase in container throughput in July 2025.
Transshipment volumes surged by 35.34%, while export containers rose 12.86%. Imports posted a modest gain of 0.10% compared to the same month last year.
