PSA HALIFAX WELCOMES NEW AMERIGO SERVICE TO THE PORT OF HALIFAX

PSA Halifax marked the arrival of the AMERIGO service, a new joint operation by CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping, OOCL and ONE, with the CMA CGM Ambition making its maiden call on Nov. 25, 2025, at its Atlantic Hub Terminal.

The CMA CGM AMBITION is a 7,327 TEU LNG-powered container ship, and is part of CMA CGM's new generation of environmentally-efficient vessels in support of global maritime decarbonization efforts.

The AMERIGO service will strengthen direct trade links between the Mediterranean and North America, offering expanded options and improved connectivity for Canadian exporters and importers.

The service features port calls at key Mediterranean gateways including Salerno, La Spezia, Genoa, Vado Ligure, Valencia, and Algeciras, as well as major U.S. East Coast ports such as New York, Norfolk, Savannah and Miami.

"The debut of the AMERIGO service in Halifax underscores our commitment to enhancing global trade flows," said Duncan Glass, managing director, PSA Halifax.

"This new service provides our customers with more choices, faster transit times, and a reliable service network between Mediterranean, Southern Europe and Canada via Halifax, with seamless onward access to Montreal, Toronto, and the U.S. Midwest via Canadian National Railway’s extensive rail network."

The introduction of the AMERIGO service also enhances PSA Halifax's growing role as a strategic cold-chain gateway.

PSA Halifax's expedited rail system moves time‑sensitive refrigerated cargo, such as citrus fruit, directly from vessel to rail, with same‑day departures for inland markets. The operation relies on coordination among PSA Halifax, Canadian National Railway and the Halifax Port Authority.

"On behalf of the Halifax Port Authority, I want to extend a warm welcome to the new Ocean Alliance – Mediterranean service, and today’s call by the CMA-CGM Ambition," said Fulvio Fracassi, president and CEO of the Halifax Port Authority.

"The addition of this Mediterranean service, with direct calls in Italy and Spain, strengthens our gateway partnership with the Ocean Alliance and ONE, complementing their existing South and Southeast Asia services with a second weekly call. We look forward to providing enhanced supply chain connectivity and the new opportunities this service will offer to diversify and expand Canadian trade."
