CAINIAO LAUNCHES LOCKER NETWORK IN SPAIN, FRANCE TO BOOST LAST MILE LOGISTICS
September 9, 2021
Cainiao Lockers in France 2

Cainiao Network, (Cainiao), the logistics arm of Alibaba, announced the launch of its locker network in major cities of Spain and France.

In a statement, it said this move is part of its continued efforts to strengthen its logistics value chain and enhance last mile logistics efficiency.

Currently, the network comprises 170 lockers in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, and more than 80 lockers in Paris, France.

Cainiso said there are plans to deploy 2000 lockers in the two countries, extending to major cities such as Lyon, Bordeaux and Lille, by the end of the fiscal year in March 2022.

"The locker network will enable Cainiao to provide a fuss-free and contactless logistics service with flexible pick-up times for consumers, especially those who shop on AliExpress, the global marketplace of the Alibaba Group," the logistics firm said.

Cainiao noted that this offering also reduces carbon footprint of last-mile logistics services.

Europe expansion

Over the past years, Cainiao has been setting up its smart regional eHub located at the Liège Airport, which will serve as a key node in its global logistics network to connect chartered flights between China and Europe.

This is further complemented by the deployment of an intra-Europe trucking network that covers more than 30 European countries.

It said the locker network is the latest step in strengthening its logistics infrastructure to provide a more efficient and seamless cross-border logistics experience across Europe.

"Spain and France are two key European markets for Cainiao, so it is of utmost importance for us to continuously improve customer experience in these countries, while also reducing their carbon footprint. This reflects Cainiao’s commitment to providing more eco-friendly smart logistics solutions that can support sustainable economic growth,” says David Bu, general manager of Cainiao Network Europe.
