Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd. has recorded its strongest ever results for the first six months of any year, with a year-on-year tonnage growth of 10.89% and 762,104 tonnes of cargo handled.
“We’ve been able to continue the strong performance that we achieved in 2014 throughout the first half of this year,” said Lutz Grzegorz, vice president of PACTL. “First of all, this is linked to recent market trends. Among other things, we’ve registered ongoing positive developments in international imports throughout the year so far, especially from Europe and the United States.”
International imports grew by 15.02% to 290,317 tonnes, while domestic imports increased by 10.67% to 24,727 tonnes.
International exports grew by 7.63% to 420,109 tonnes and domestic exports rose by 21.48% to 26,951 tonnes.
“We’ve also been able to continuously develop our customer base, particularly in the domestic market,” said Grzegorz. “We therefore achieved a strong increase in domestic exports during the second quarter.”
During the first six months of 2015, PACTL handled air freight for 10 new airlines and, having processed 49.3% of all cargo at the airport, is now the largest air cargo handler at Pudong.
Grzegorz said that he expected freight volumes to develop in a similar fashion for the second half of the year.
