According to Qantas, the weekly flight will be operated by a Boeing 747-400F and will be part of a triangular route connecting Australia, China, the US and Australia.

“Qantas Freight has operated a well-supported freighter route between Australia, China and the USA for 12 consecutive years,” said Gareth Evans, CEO of international and freight at Qantas. “We are pleased to keep meeting the needs of our customers by adding another southern USA freight gateway into our scheduling.”

The airline also carries freight between Sydney and Dallas in the belly of its daily Airbus A380 passenger flight.

“The addition of this 747-400F freighter service now gives us capacity for main-deck and oversize shipments,” said Evans. “This additional service reinforces the Qantas Group’s commitment to the Texas region and responds to demand we have for bringing larger loads and outsized shipments into Australia.”

Goods expected to be transported on the flight include energy, mining and aerospace cargo from the US to Australia, and electronics, e-commerce and general cargo from China to the US.

Qantas Freight operates its international freighter network with two 747-400Fs and a 767-300F.
