The board of directors at ZIM Integrated Shipping Services has nominated Eli Glickman as the new president and CEO of the company from July 1, 2017.
Glickman will succeed Rafi Danieli, who announced in 2016 that he would be stepping down after eight years as CEO.
“It has been a privilege to lead ZIM during the most difficult times the industry has ever faced,” Danieli said. “Through the combined efforts of management and our devoted employees, during these difficult times we improved our network, operating margins, efficiency and customer service. For the last eight financial quarters, our operating margins have put us in the top tier of liner companies.”
Glickman was previously CEO of the Israel Electric Company. Prior to that, he was deputy CEO of Partner-Orange Cellular Communication and has also worked as CEO of logistics company Exel MPL. Before working in the business community, Glickman was a commanding officer of the Israeli Navy Special Operations Unit, as well as a missile ship commander and the naval attaché in Washington D.C.
“Despite challenges throughout the liner industry, ZIM has continued to perform well relative to its peers,” he said. “ZIM is a dynamic and exciting company and I am looking forward to joining.”
Separately, Guy Eldar, who has been CFO for four and a half years, has decided to leave the company for personal reasons.
A replacement is yet to be nominated, according to ZIM.
