Azerbaijan Airlines has placed an order at the Dubai Airshow 2017 for five Boeing 787-8s and signed a commitment to purchase two large freighters, to be finalized at a later time.

“Ordering additional 787 Dreamliner airplanes will greatly expand our airline’s capabilities, allowing us to serve new destinations and carry more passengers,” said Jahangir Askerov [centre in photo], president of AZAL. “We are delighted to expand our partnership with The Boeing Company, which has been a reliable partner in supplying modern airplanes, and helping us operate and maintain the jets.”

AZAL’s fleet already includes two 787-8s. The airline also operates 757-200s and 767-300ERs.

Azerbaijan Airlines also announced that it would be the launch customer for the 787 Landing Gear Exchange Program, whereby Boeing Global Services will provide the carrier with a lower-cost solution for overhauled and certified landing gears for its fleet of 787s.

More than 65 customers have ordered more than 1,275 787s to date, according to Boeing.
