While over a million flights fewer have operated across the European network compared with 2019 since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Europe, air traffic is now slowly starting to pick up.

The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) said aircraft movements in Europe are starting to recover after hitting rock bottom on April 2020 with just 2,099 flights operated across the network.

EUROCONTROL, an international organisation working to achieve safe and seamless air traffic management across Europe, reported that as of end-April, aircraft movements are "starting to pick up" in European airspace with a daily average of 3,734 flights.

This is "a positive development" even though it is 27,180 fewer than the same period in 2019. The latest data for April 29 showed a total of 4,566 flights handled – again moving upwards.
