The new aircraft will provide up to 50% more cargo capacity by 2020, according to the airline.

The A350 will be flying domestic and European routes for crew familiarization, and will be deployed on the airline’s long-haul flight to Shanghai on November 21, 2015.

Pekka Vauramo, president and CEO of Finnair, also announced that the airline would be launching flights to Fukuoka and Guangzhou with A330-300s in 2016.

“We intend to double our Asian traffic by 2020 from the 2010 baseline, and these new destinations are an important step towards this target,” said Vauramo. “We have a long tradition of connecting Asia and Europe with smooth fast connections via our Helsinki hub, and I look forward to expanding our network to these two exciting markets.”

Finnair has 18 more A350s on order, and three more are expected to be delivered by the end of 2015.
