Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd. handled almost 1.6 million tonnes of freight in 2015, surpassing the previous record set in 2014.

“Despite difficult market conditions, we were able to develop our business fully in line with our expectations,” said Lutz Grzegorz, vice president of PACTL. “This is evident, for example, in the ongoing growth in international imports, which was caused by the rising demand for imported consumer goods such as perishables, pharmaceuticals and other high-value articles.”

The 2015 total volume represented a year-on-year growth of 6.47 percent. In terms of international cargo, imports grew by 9.36 percent to 602,004 tonnes and exports grew by 4.42 percent to 892,223 tonnes. Domestically, imports rose by 4.26 percent to 49,653 tonnes while exports increased by 11.51 percent to 55,431 tonnes.

The terminal held a market share of 49.4% at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, an increase of 1.4% compared to 2014, according to PACTL.
