Qatar Airways will operate the Boeing 787-8 on its twice-daily Hong Kong flights starting from October 30, 2016.
The 787s will replace the Airbus A330-200s currently flying the route.
“We are delighted to be introducing a 787 on our Hong Kong route in October, but the bigger impact for us will come in February when we will be adding a second daily A330 passenger service to our network,” said Ulrich Ogiermann, chief officer of cargo at Qatar Airways. “This will increase our cargo capacity by 85 tonnes per week to and from HKG. The change of the A330 to a 787 in October will have minimum repercussions for cargo as the 787 offers a very similar cargo capacity.”
The airline announced in October 2015 that it would be taking over and restoring the second Hong Kong flight when oneworld partner Cathay Pacific withdraws its daily service on February 15, 2016.
