April 29, 2022

Delta Cargo announced that it is resuming all its services in Shanghai PVG after suspending it on April 6 amid ongoing Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns in the major Chinese air cargo and shipping hub.

"We are pleased to announce that Delta Cargo will resume operations (import/export/transfer) in Shanghai, CN (PVG), effective May 2,"  the freight arm of Delta Air Lines said in an April 29 operational advisory, adding that booking is open now for the services to the major Chinese hub.

The embargo of all products (import/export/transfer) PVG has been extended then to April 18 then May 6 before this announcement of resumption.

Shanghai has started easing some of its toughest lockdown measures since last week including the introduction of a tiered system in which neighborhoods are divided into three categories based on the risk of transmission with those in the first category facing the strictest Covid controls and being the main target of the new heightened measures.

Companies in Shanghai are also restarting operations through a "closed-loop system" after submitting plans to authorities on how to halt the spread of the coronavirus.

Nonetheless, the end of Shanghai's five-week is continuously being delayed by Covid-19 infections appearing in the community despite the city's tough rules on isolating all positive cases and their close contacts.

The number of Covid-19 cases in Shanghai keeps falling, nonetheless, with 4,982 infections recorded on Tuesday, down from the 5,669 seen on Monday.
