Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) announced that its modernized Ocean Terminal facility — which focuses on containerized cargo — will open its first phase in 2025.
"Georgia Ports Authority has handled containers and breakbulk at Ocean Terminal since 1958. Now, it's time to bring this Savannah facility into the future," GPA said in a brief statement.
It noted that Ocean Terminal is being modernized with a focus on containerized cargo.
GPA said the refurbishment will increase capacity to 2 million TEUs a year with eight electric ship-to-shore cranes, 2,800 feet of berth space, and 55 hybrid electric rubber-tire gantry cranes.
The announcement said Phase 1 of the reimagined Ocean Terminal will open in early 2025, with Phase II coming online in spring 2026.
