Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the world's busiest cargo airport, continued to report double-digit cargo growth in July, driven by increased export cargo. 

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) released the July air traffic statistics for HKIA, where the hub reported a 14.6% year-on-year cargo growth.

Air freight volumes stood at 414,000 tonnes and rose for the 10th consecutive month in July.

In June, cargo volumes reached 417,000 tonnes. It was at 416,000 tonnes in May.

"Cargo throughput at HKIA has continued its consecutive double-digit year-on-year growth since the beginning of the year," AAHK said in a statement.

"Export cargo remained the main growth driver, increasing by 16.8% compared to the same month last year," it added.

The airport authority noted that cargo traffic to and from key trading regions in Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East increased most significantly in the month.

For the first seven months of the year, cargo traffic increased by 17.4%, double the annual average, to about 2.8 million tonnes.

On a 12-month rolling basis, cargo throughput reported a growth of 15.7% to 4.7 million tonnes.
