Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) saw a dip in air cargo volumes in September due to the impact of weather disturbances and ongoing global trade uncertainties.
HKIA, the world's busiest air cargo hub, reported a throughput of 408,000 tonnes, representing a 1.0% slight drop compared to September 2024.
Traffic to/from North America declined during the month, partially offset by continued growth in cargo traffic to/ from Europe and the Middle East.
Meanwhile, bright spots with high growth over the past nine months included Qatar, Hungary, Belgium and the Mainland.
"[The result was] impacted by the typhoon disruptions and ongoing trade policy uncertainty," HKIA said.
Over the first three quarters of the year, the airport said flight movements increased to 290,885, representing year-on-year growth of 8.9%.
In the January to September period, cargo volume rose by 2.2% year-on-year to 3.67 million tonnes.
On a 12-month rolling basis, flight movements increased by 10.3% to 387,110 and cargo throughput grew by 4.1% year-on-year to 5.02 million tonnes.
