GEORGIA, S. CAROLINA PORTS REOPEN AFTER HURRICANE

Ports operated by the Georgia Ports Authority and the South Carolina Ports Authority were expected to reopen late Sunday or early Monday, US time, following the passage of Hurricane Matthew over the weekend.

Matthew was a Category 4 storm when it hit Haiti late last week. It had weakened to a Category 1 storm when it made landfall some 64 km northeast of Charleston, South Carolina, bringing soaking rains and stiff winds to the US Southeast.

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) reported at 12:15 Sunday afternoon that power had been restored to its terminals in Savannah, and that it expected power to be restored to its Brunswick facitlities by late Sunday.

GPA said it expects that vessels will be permitted to transit the Savannah river channel on Monday morning, October 10, following assessment by the US Coast Guard. Upcoming vessel sailing schedules will be  posted at www.gaports.com when available.

Container operations at the Garden City Terminal are set to resume Monday evening. Gate operations will resume Tuesday morning, October 11, the GPA reported.

In South Carolina, the SCPA reported Sunday evening that vessel operations and normal hours would resume at all facilities on Monday, October 10, including container gate services at the Wando Welch and North Charleston Terminals at 6AM.

As of Sunday evening, the storm was tracking out to sea, away from the US mainland.
