Dubai International Airport handled 2,592,454 tonnes of cargo in 2016, a 3.4% increase compared to 2015.
Dubai Airports, the operator of Dubai’s two airports, said that cargo volumes rebounded in the last three months of the year, after having contracted throughout the third quarter.
In particular, DXB handled 230,122 tonnes of cargo in December 2016, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%.
During 2016, several new airlines launched operations at the airport including Nepal Airlines and Rossiya, and 11 new passenger destinations were added to the network by existing carriers, according to Dubai Airports.
