Emirates SkyCargo has obtained a revalidation of its compliance with the European Union’s Good Distribution Practice guidelines for medicinal products for human use.
According to Emirates, the certification covers SkyCargo’s pharma operations across the Emirates SkyCentral cargo terminals at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport, as well as the 24/7 bonded trucking service connecting the two hubs.
The annual audit for the revalidation was carried out by Bureau Veritas, Germany.
Emirates now operates the world’s largest multi-airport GDP-certified hub in Dubai, with more than 8,600 square metres of dedicated pharma facilities.
The certification was first obtained in September 2016, when the carrier inaugurated its purpose-built pharma terminal at Dubai International Airport and launched Emirates Pharma, Emirates Pharma Plus and Emirates Pharma Active, a range of temperature-controlled solutions for pharmaceutical shipments.
Over 51,000 tonnes of pharmaceuticals with a value of more than US$11 billion have been transported since the launch of the specialized pharma product and volumes from January to September 2017 grew by over 25% year-on-year, according to Emirates.
