“We are delighted to launch our eighth freighter destination for 2017, in line with our strategic expansion to our network and fleet,” said Guillaume Halleux, acting chief officer of cargo at Qatar Airways. “Since the country’s liberalization, Myanmar has had the fastest-growing economy in the ASEAN region, and foreign investment in local trade has seen tremendous growth. We are extremely proud to be the first international airline to serve this emerging market with scheduled freighter service as we aspire to become the premier air cargo service provider in the region.”

The new freighter service will carry Myanmar’s exports of garments, fresh produce and food products, as well as pharmaceutical products from Europe.

Qatar Airways already offers belly capacity on its daily A319 passenger flight to Yangon.
