DACHSER INVESTS IN NORTHERN CHINA

Logistics provider Dachser has expanded its Dalian branch to make space for its growing team and has begun rolling out its transport management system in northern China.

“Being in Dalian gives us a major geographical advantage because it means we have direct access to the northeast non-freezing port, we are conveniently located near the national high-speed railway, as well as being right on the One Belt One Road link from North China to Europe and Russia,” said Yves Larquemin, managing director of air and sea logistics in North China at Dachser. “We can’t neglect this important area.”

Additionally, the roll-out of Othello, Dachser’s global air and sea transport management system has begun in the Beijing, Tianjin and Wuhan offices, and is expected to be fully operational across all North China branches by the end of the year.

“As our business in North China grows, our harmonized processes enhance cooperation between the worldwide teams using the same systems and operating based upon the same standards,” said Larquemin. “This certainly increases efficiency and transparency.”

Othello was developed by Dachser and links air and sea freight shipments seamlessly with overland and warehousing activities across all continents. It has already been implemented across the company’s branches in South China.

“We are utilizing this remarkable digital advantage to help sustain the explosive growth in our network,” said Kevin Chen, managing director of air and sea logistics in South China at Dachser. “Being part of one common system enables all of our South China branches to be systematically interlinked with all Dachser network branches anywhere in the world. This does not only make us more efficient and productive but it also allows the processes to be more transparent for our customers.”

Dachser offers the complete range of services and fully integrated supply chain solutions in China, including procurement and distribution, air services including air charters, sea freight, rail services, customs clearance, bonded and non-bonded warehousing, as well as value-added services.

“To be the best at what we’re doing, we constantly streamline processes to be in complete control of all aspects of the supply chain,” said Edoardo Podestá, managing director of air and sea logistics in Asia Pacific at Dachser. “As a consequence, we have been taking the entire IT process in-house and have continued to build systems that allow all our modes of transport and warehousing to be fully harmonized.”

Dachser first entered China in 2006 and now covers 17 key economic locations, including its North China Air Freight Gateway at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
