Singapore Airlines is the first customer for the new ultra-long-range variant of the A350 and has seven on firm order. The first delivery is scheduled for September, with the remainder to follow by the end of 2018.

The route will cover a distance of approximately 16,700km, with a flight time of up to 18 hours and 45 minutes. The airline previously flew the route with A340-500 aircraft until 2013, when services were suspended after the aircraft were returned to Airbus.

Singapore Airlines is also planning a non-stop flight between Singapore and Los Angeles, a route it also flew with the A340-500.

The airline currently has 21 A350-900s in service and 46 more on order, including the seven ULRs.

Singapore Airlines already serves New York JFK via Frankfurt with a daily A380.
