COSCO SHIPPING PORTS RECORDS 8.8% RISE IN CONTAINER VOLUMES FOR H1

Cosco Shipping Ports’ saw its container throughput rise by 8.8% year on year in the first half of 2021 to 62.7 million TEUs.

 

Total throughput of the Greater China region rose by 10.1% year to year to 48.47 million TEU during the period and accounted for 77.3% of Cosco’s total throughput. 

 

Total throughput of the overseas region also grew by 4.7% to 14.24 million TEUs — accounting for 22.7% of the total throughput. 

 

Cosco said with signs of recovery globally, imports and exports in China also showed strong performance for the first six months of the year.

 

It added that trade and economic activities are also anticipated to further improve, which will in turn further boos shipping.

 

As part of efforts to further improve its operations, Cosco is also looking to push forward with its digital transformation including improving terminal automation. 

 

Cosco Shipping Ports saw a US$175.6 million profit in the first half, which is 7.5% higher year on year. Contributions from terminals segment reached US$216.86 million, which is up 59.9%.
