Israeli airline, El Al, has received regulatory approval from the Israeli civil aviation authority to operate dedicated freighters.

The approval comes as the airline awaits the arrival of its first converted aircraft.

Previously, there were concerns that El Al's freighter authorization would be cancelled due to the requirement of having a minimum of two cargo aircraft in its fleet.
However, the regulator has amended the regulation, reducing the minimum requirement to just one aircraft.

El Al noted that to comply with the amended regulation, it has decided to acquire a Boeing 737-800 converted freighter.
Although the introduction of this freighter has been delayed for a few months due to validation procedures, the airline has obtained an extension to its commercial license from the civil aviation authority.

This extension grants El Al the rights to operate all-cargo aircraft until June 5 of next year.
