PORT OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY RECORD 16% VOLUME GROWTH IN JUNE

The Port of New York and New Jersey handled 708,977 TEUs in June, marking the port's fourth consecutive month surpassing 700,000 TEUs, as well as its seventh consecutive month of year-over-year growth.

 

June 2024's total throughput was up 14% from June 2023 and a 16% jump from June 2019.

 

The Port of New York and New Jersey handled 4,210,657 TEUs in the first six months of 2024, a 13% jump over the same period in 2023.

 

The first half of 2024 also marked a 15% increase compared to the first half of 2019.

 

"The Port of New York and New Jersey cemented its status as the nation's second-busiest container port for loaded imports and exports, moving over 2.8 million loaded TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in the first six months of the year," the port said in the announcement. 

 

For the period, loaded cargo handled stood at 2,841,623 loaded TEUs.

 

In the first quarter of 2024, the Port of New York and New Jersey surpassed 2 million TEUs as the port moved a total of 2,001,449 TEUs by the end of the first quarter.

 

This was a 12% increase from the same period in both 2023 and pre-pandemic 2019.
